Singapore: Road Signs and Priority
Left-hand driving conventions, roundabout rules, and high-frequency signs in Singapore.
Destination context: Urban corridors are tightly managed with dense camera coverage. ERP charges apply on major expressways during peak windows, and lane discipline is strictly enforced.
How to read this guide: Focus on left-hand lane discipline, CashCard/ERP readiness, and understanding demerit-point penalties before your first drive.
Driving side and lane discipline
Keep left unless overtaking
Singapore drives on the left. On multi-lane roads, keep to the left lane unless overtaking. Lingering in the right (overtaking) lane on expressways is an offence.
Roundabouts
Give way to traffic already in the roundabout (approaching from your right). Signal left when exiting.
High-frequency signs
Bus lane hours
Full-day and part-time bus lanes are marked with blue signs showing operating hours. Driving in a bus lane outside permitted hours for other vehicles still requires checking current signage.
ERP gantry signs
Blue ERP signs indicate upcoming gantries and charge amounts by vehicle class. Ensure your In-Vehicle Unit (IU) or rental vehicle has a valid CashCard/CEPAS card inserted.
